Set hotel star rating minimum and maximum
Administrators are able to control the range of star ratings that will be considered in policy for hotel bookings. To support this, administrators can set the minimum and maximum number of stars a hotel must have to be in policy as well as set the action that will be taken if a traveler attempts to book a hotel with a number of stars that is outside the range.
You can also set location-specific minimum and maximum hotel star ranges for in-policy bookings. The most geographically-specific setting will be applied. For example, if you had set a general hotel star range and then set custom values for California, and Los Angeles, California, a traveler booking a hotel in Los Angeles would have to be in compliance with the Los Angeles setting (and would not be affected by the other settings). A traveler booking in San Francisco, California, would not affected by the Los Angeles setting (or the general setting) but would be constrained by the California setting.
Select Policies from the Program menu.
Expand the Policy menu on the left.
Select the Default Policy (or other policy) from the menu.
Expand the Hotel section.
Scroll down to locate the Star rating section and expand it.
Use the Star rating fields under Default ratings to select the minimum and maximum number of stars a hotel must have to be bookable. If you want to set a specific star rating range for hotels which are part of the major hotel chains (Accor, Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Hyatt):
Enable the Chain override toggle.
Use the Major Chain Rating fields to select the minimum and maximum number of stars a hotel that belongs to one of the major chains must have to be bookable.
Select the desired action to be taken from the Out of policy action field when travelers book hotels above or below the star rating ranges you have set. Options are (for more details see Setting approval policies):
Default to policy group action - The default action for out-of-policy hotel bookings defined within the General section of the policy will apply.
No action - If selected, travelers will be able to book the hotel but the booking will be marked as out-of-policy.
Passive approval
Soft approval
Hard approval
Pre approval
Block booking - If selected, travelers will not be able to book the hotel. However, if agent overrides have been enabled on the relevant policy, agents will still be able to book the hotel for travelers.
To configure location-specific minimum and maximum hotel star rating settings, click Add location. Then use the search field to specify the location (be as specific as you need to be). Then set the minimum and maximum hotel star rating allowed for that location. The action taken for bookings which violate the hotel star range allowed will be the same as whatever is set in the Out of policy action field for the default setting. If you want to set a specific star rating range for hotels which are part of the major hotel chains (Accor, Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Hyatt) for a specific location:
Enable the Chain override toggle.
Use the Major Chain Rating fields to select the minimum and maximum number of stars a hotel that belongs to one of the major chains must have to be bookable for this location.
When done, click Save changes.
The Chain override setting is different than the Set hotel policy rule exceptions by preferred tier settings because it only enables an alternate star rating setting for hotels that are part of the major chains whereas the exceptions per tier overrides the setting entirely for hotels in that preferred tier.
