Book a rail trip (U.S. - Amtrak)

Use this procedure to search for and book an Amtrak rail trip.

You can choose to create a trip beforehand via the Trips page. Any bookings you make must eventually be added to a trip.
  1. Log in to the Online Booking Tool.
  2. Click Book on the main menu.
  3. Ensure that the Train icon on the left is selected.
  4. Select the type of rail trip.
    • Round trip
    • One way
  5. Then, depending on the type of rail trip you selected (you also have the option to specify whether this is a personal booking and to select any applicable rail cards):
    • For Round trip: Enter your Where from and Where to locations. Enter your Outbound and Return dates and times.
    • For One way: Enter your Where from and Where to locations. Enter your Outbound date and time.
  6. Select an Amtrak Guest Rewards and a discount rail card, if applicable. Only one discount rail card can be applied (e.g., you can't use both Military Veteran and Railroad Passengers Association for the same rail booking).
  7. Click Search Rail. The Outbound page will show rail options that match the criteria you entered. The fares are organized into fare class columns (Coach, Business, First). You can also view earlier or later departure options.
  8. To expand and view the options for a particular fare class, click the price. This will display the various ticket types (Saver Fare, Value Fare, Flexible Fare) available for that class of travel. Note that Saver Fare is not available on Acela Business class. For an explanation of each ticket type, click the info icon next to it.
  9. Click Select to select a particular ticket type. Click Continue to proceed with your booking. If you are booking a round trip rail journey, you will repeat the fare selection process for the return trip. Once ticket types have been selected for all portions of your trip, the Summary page will be displayed.
  10. The Summary page allows you to review and update traveler information and contact details. Review and update this information as needed.
  11. Click Next.
  12. The second Summary page will be displayed. This page will show a detailed price for the rail booking. This is also where you can:
    • select a trip for your rail booking. You can either select an existing trip or create a new one.
    • select a payment method. In some cases, a default payment method may already be selected or your company may only allow specific payment methods to be used.
    • review your rail itinerary.
    • enter any company-specific information that may be required (e.g., Reason for Travel).
  13. Select the checkbox to confirm that you have read and accept the terms and conditions.
  14. When you are ready to complete your booking, click Confirm and Pay. Your selected rail trip will be booked.
You will receive an email confirmation of your rail booking from both Spotnana and Amtrak.
- Amtrak E-tickets are never attached to the confirmation email Spotnana sends and are never accessible from the Spotana Trips page.
- You will receive the E-ticket via a separate email that is sent directly from Amtrak.
- If you used your Amtrak Guest Rewards number to book the rail trip, Amtrak will send the email (with the ticket attached) to the email address associated with your Amtrak Guest Rewards account (this can be a personal email).
